How do I find Amazon Lightning Deals?

If you’re new to Amazon, it’s a relatively easy process to find Lightning Deals:

  • Go to Amazon.com.
  • Click on Today’s Deals (look under the search bar).
  • Once on the deals page, click on the Lightning Deals icon.

On the Lightning Deals page, you can sort by department, price, discount, availability, and average customer review. This is useful for skipping hundreds of listings you don’t want.

What is Amazon's discount site?

Amazon has several discount sites:

  • Amazon Bargain Finds sells only products that cost $15 or less. It’s one of the best places to look if you need to find a cheap gift for white elephant exchanges, work parties, or because you have some Amazon gift card balance to use up.
  • Amazon Outlet is similar to your favorite outlet stores as it focuses on overstocked products, clearance items, and closeouts.
  • Amazon Renewed specializes in used products, but these have been refurbished and tested to ensure they work like new. Amazon offers a guarantee on renewed products so you can get a refund or replacement within 90 days of receiving your merchandise.
  • Amazon Warehouse also specializes in open-box and used products. You can buy lightly used products, often for a hefty discount. You can return products within 30 days if you aren’t satisfied.
  • Woot focuses on daily deals, including offering a main daily deal that it sells cheaper than other retail websites. Because Woot is an Amazon-owned company, you can use your Amazon login on the site.

Case Study

Limited-time offers have a countdown timer for two reasons: The first reason is that sellers can offer better deals because they have expiration dates and limited stock.

The second is that limited-time offers have a psychological effect known as “anticipatory regret” that kicks in just before the sale ends.1 This effect causes people to make more impulsive purchases.

What we like about the Amazon Echo Flex

One of the best things about the Amazon Echo Flex is that you can add Amazon Alexa voice controls to your home for $25, even when it’s not Black Friday. This is the cheapest Echo smart hub Amazon’s ever released, but it still comes packed with features.

The Amazon Echo Flex plugs directly into any outlet, but it also has a USB port that lets you charge your phone, so the Flex doesn’t waste space. We also like that Echo Flex has two optional accessories (each costs about $15), so you can turn it into a motion detector or a night-light. Overall, we think it’s a pretty nifty smart speaker.

What we like about the Emerson Sensi

The Emerson Sensi is probably the most affordable smart thermostat that also works with major smart home platforms like Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. You can control the unit from your smartphone, which allows you to get alerts, set schedules, and view usage reports.

The Emerson Sensi isn’t as attractive as the Nest Learning Thermostat, but its simple design looks good on any wall. We like that it has physical buttons, so there’s no learning curve like you sometimes get with touchscreen thermostats.

        110°
        *Amazon.com price as of 11/22/2019 at 11:56 a.m. (MST)

What we like about the Wyze Cam

Not only is the Wyze Cam one of the few Wi-Fi security cameras you can buy for less than $30, it’s also one of the best. This small security camera is perfect for monitoring inside your home with its 1080p HD video quality and night vision capabilities. It’s also compatible with a suite of smart home platforms like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT.

The Wyze Cam gives you two ways to record security footage: you can save it to a microSD card (it supports cards up to 32GB) or store it in the cloud. We prefer the microSD card option since it doesn’t have any recording limitations, but it’s nice to have a cloud option as well.

August Smart Lock: Best smart lock deal

        Best smart lock deal
        August Smart Lock
        Price*:
        $96.92

          Bluetooth (Wi-Fi bridge sold separately)
          *Amazon.com price as of 11/22/2019 at 11:56 a.m. (MST)

What we like about the August Smart Lock

The August Smart Lock currently costs less than $100, making it the most affordable smart lock on the market. It has a slick mobile app and is very easy to install on your existing deadbolt lock. You can set the smart lock to automatically lock or unlock, which helps keep your home more secure. One of its best features is Door Sense, which prevents the bolt from prematurely engaging before you close the door.

The lock connects to your phone via Bluetooth, which works when you’re within 100 feet or so. Otherwise, you can’t connect to the lock over Wi-Fi without buying the August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge. With the August Connect, you can use your lock with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

If you want a more luxurious experience, we recommend upgrading to the August Smart Lock Pro, our current favorite smart lock, because it works with more smart home platforms like Apple HomeKit and SmartThings.

What we like about the Fire TV Stick 4K

With news that older smart TVs are losing Netflix support, it’s a good idea to invest in a TV stick to future-proof your TV. We like the Fire TV Stick 4K because it supports the latest 4K video and HDR streaming standards.

It also has a remote with built-in Amazon Alexa voice controls, so it fits naturally in an Alexa smart home. You can even use the Fire TV Stick 4K to check the video from your Ring Video Doorbell.

You can save a little cash by getting the Amazon Fire TV Stick for around $40, but this version supports video only up to 1080p. We think splurging on the 4K version is worth the extra expense.
