LifeLock Review 2019: Plans, Price and More

LifeLock

LifeLock’s top-tier package offers good identity and credit monitoring coverage, along with Norton Security protection services. However, it costs more than the industry standard, especially since the prices go up after a year.

Overview
LifeLock stands out in the industry by offering a Norton Security add-on subscription to protect up to five of your Wi-Fi connected devices.

However, the monthly cost of LifeLock’s most comprehensive package is higher compared to other plans from other companies, especially after a year when the price goes up. Ultimately, LifeLock doesn’t have enough standout features to make it worth the extra cost.

If you’re still interested in LifeLock (it is a big name in identity theft protection, after all) or want to know more about LifeLock’s cost and features, read on for our full review.

LifeLock pros and cons

Pros

  • Norton Security protection included with every package
  • Identity theft restoration and compensation of up to $1 million
  • Free mobile app for easy access and push notifications

Cons

  • More expensive top-tier package than many competing plans
  • No family plan available—each adult pays full price
  • Annual credit reports only

LifeLock’s memberships and costs

LifeLock offers three packages. Each one monitors your basic information, including your Social Security number, address, driver’s license number, and credit information, but only the top-tier package offers a full range of identity theft protection services.

LifeLock Standard

The LifeLock Standard package is the least expensive but also the least comprehensive. For $9.99 per month (for the first year), you get basic identity protection and credit monitoring for just one bureau. After that first year, the monthly price goes up to $12.99 per month.

While this plan is inexpensive compared to other companies, competitors offer much more coverage for not much more money.

Coverage with LifeLock Standard

  • Social Security number monitoring
  • Credit alerts from one credit bureau (Equifax)
  • Dark web monitoring
  • Address change verification
  • Personal information monitoring
  • Lost wallet protection
  • Up to $25,000 stolen funds reimbursement and personal expense compensation

LifeLock Advantage

The midrange tier, LifeLock Advantage, starts at $19.99 per month and jumps up to $24.99 per month after the first year. With the price increase comes more coverage, including bank account and credit card activity alerts, but you still get credit monitoring from only one credit bureau.

There isn’t a huge difference between LifeLock Advantage and the top-tier package, so if you go with LifeLock, Advantage balances price and features better than the other packages.

Coverage with LifeLock Advantage

  • Everything from Standard plan
  • Up to $100,000 stolen funds reimbursement and personal expense compensation
  • Bank account and credit card alerts
  • Data breach notifications
  • Alerts for crimes committed in your name
  • Annual credit report and score from one credit bureau (Equifax)

LifeLock Ultimate Plus

For $29.99 per month during the first year and $34.99 per month after that, LifeLock Ultimate Plus costs more than plans from most competitors.

This is the only LifeLock package that monitors all three credit bureaus and gives you a monthly credit score update.

However, this is the only LifeLock package that monitors all three credit bureaus and gives you a monthly credit score update. As far as identity monitoring, the Ultimate package has a few more features beyond what’s offered in the LifeLock Advantage package.

Coverage with LifeLock Ultimate Plus

  • Everything from Advantage plan
  • Annual credit report and score from three credit bureaus
  • Monthly credit score based on Equifax data
  • Sex offender registry report
  • 401(k) and investment activity alerts

LifeLock family plan add-ons

Identity Theft Protection for Families

LifeLock doesn’t offer a family plan; every adult in your home will need a full-priced membership subscription of their own. However, LifeLock does offer some add-on plans to protect the youngest and oldest members of your family from identity theft.

You might not feel like your children or aging parents need monitoring because they aren’t actively using their credit, but that’s exactly why identity thieves want to steal their information.

LifeLock Junior

LifeLock Junior monitors your child’s personal information and credit to make sure nothing suspicious shows up on their credit report. You can add a LifeLock Junior subscription to any of the adult memberships for $5.99 per month per child. This can add up if you’re covering multiple children—and some competitors offer packages that cover up to 10 children in one plan.

LifeLock Senior

LifeLock Senior is another add-on package that allows you to monitor an older parent’s information and credit. It costs $19.99 per month and monitors bank accounts, credit cards, investment accounts, home titles, address changes, and the dark web.

LifeLock features

Norton Security

One of the best things about LifeLock is that all three packages come with a subscription to Norton Security for up to five devices. Norton Security defends your devices from spyware, malware, viruses, and other online attacks, and it protects your online transactions from fraud. LifeLock is one of only a few companies to offer this kind of feature.

LifeLock mobile app

LifeLock offers customers a free mobile app (for iOS and Android) so you can receive notifications and review fraud alerts on your mobile device. You can also view your credit information and, with the Ultimate Plus plan, track your credit score.

The LifeLock app also has an in-app messaging feature to make it easy to contact a customer service representative if you have a question or if you suspect you’re a victim of identity theft.

LifeLock customer service

LifeLock’s Member Services department is available 24/7 by phone and through the LifeLock mobile app’s messaging feature. However, we’d like to see a live chat available online as well.

Canceling LifeLock

All LifeLock’s packages renew automatically, either monthly or annually, depending on how you pay for the services. You can cancel your subscription online or over the phone. If you cancel an annual membership within 60 days, you may be eligible to receive a partial refund; however, no refunds are given for monthly memberships.

LifeLock reviews

Customer reviews for LifeLock are mixed, though mostly positive. Many customers praise LifeLock for its services and support—especially victims of identity theft. However, lots of customers are frustrated with the cancellation process, poor customer service, and the price hike after the first year.

Our recommendation

While we like LifeLock’s Norton Security subscription with each plan, that’s its only standout feature.

LifeLock’s top package is the only one that includes monitoring from all three credit bureaus, making it the most useful of LifeLock’s three plans. However, we think its price is prohibitively expensive compared to competing companies, especially after the first-year price hike. We prefer IdentityForce for its reasonable pricing and comprehensive features.
