What exactly is the difference between robbery and theft? I’ve always used them interchangeably.

Robbery is the action of actual robbing a person or place with violence. For example, holding someone at gunpoint and threatening them.

Theft is the crime of stealing with the intent of never returning it. For example, embezzlement is a form of theft.
