Why would someone take the time to break in to your home and risk getting caught but not take anything? That makes no sense to me.

It’s never easy to get in the mind of a burglar. They could be someone who just wants to mess with your head. They may love the rush or possibility of getting caught but don’t necessarily need anything from you. They could have been interrupted/scared so left quickly so they didn’t get caught. They could have been looking for something specific but couldn’t find it.

The important thing to remember is that if this happens to you it is still important to file a police report. If the person was looking for something specific they may come back later. They have experience breaking into your home so they will be able to gain access easier the next time. You may want to consider changing your locks as well.
